That's Me!

In the latest Triathlete issue, amongst the "Checking In" section, there was an annoying pull-out ad for Hammer Nutrition. It was the kind you pull it out without even looking at it. It featured pro and age-group triathletes alike, all swearing by Hammer Nutrition products. I thought I recognized the beach featured for Adam Brown's picture as the very same one in Racine on the shores of Lake Michigan, used for the 1.2 mile swim in the Spirit of Racine Triathlon. In fact it was. I recognized the swim caps, then I caught the goggles on the guy behind Adam. Those kind of look like mine...that shoulder looks familiar, and that does look like my top. Perhaps? A double check of the swim splits confirmed it: That, in fact, is me running behind Adam. Sweet!

I'm thinking of asking Hammer for some free stuff.

More fun with the Canon

I am still getting used to some of the features with the new Canon digicam. One of the coolest is the "stitch" feature; putting panoramic shots together. I took two at the Badger game on Saturday. Breese Terrace before the game and the skyline view from our seats.

Kris and I went biking so I could try out my new bike. The sun was setting, making for one of the coolest skylines to be adorned in the orange glow of the sun. I love the new camera.

It's a sad day

Today, I told Nikon to send back my camera without repairing it. I sent it in a month ago because the lens stopped extruding when powered up. It was within its warranty period, and they gave every indication that it would fixed under warranty at no cost to me. I checked the repair status after two weeks. They had "re-estimated" the camera and said I had to pay $181 for a new lens due to sand damage. (I paid $400 a year ago.) It's never been to a beach, so the "sand" must be pocket lint. I asked if they could send me a picture of the damage as proof. This is what I received. Now, the numbers you see aren't the serial number on my camera. I fell I have them cornered, trying to pull some wool over my eyes, so I sent an e-mail to confirm it. I get one saying that, "yup, them's the serial numbers." I called to tattle-tell on them, and expect an apology. Instead I get an explanation that I was misinformed. Then I got a new picture in the e-mail. So it really was my camera. Maybe I can fix it myself.

The trees here are starting to grow around the overhead wires. I think they know that if they don't, the power company will hack them apart as they wish.

Bird Killer

This morning, I got a great e-mail from my Dad. Poor guy came into work and was instantly accused of being an animal killer. (There are rumors that PETA will be protesting there this afternoon.) It's not really his fault that his office is conveniently located on the third floor, and that his windows are mirrored enough that birds are able to see their reflection. It’s not his fault that the bird thought his reflection was an enemy and attacked itself, is it? No, not at all. But the pictures he took of the carnage are pretty cool.
