Defending Basketball

A new season is upon the defending MSCR Coast league Basketball champions. I was anxious to see how the new body would work. Previously, I would huff & puff up and down the court, needing a sub every five minutes. Last night, I was able to play the entire time, resting only to let others play. And we played full-court ball for the entire hour and a half.

Who knew that losing the weight equivalent to a small child would make such a difference?

Basketball, Championship Game

We came, we saw, we won. It was my best game of the season, scoring six points and some assists. Although my toenail will fall off later this summer (It did the same thing last year.), it's well worth it to bring home the hardware. The best part about playing was my stamina increasing from game to game. By tonight's game, instead of fans and teammates laughing at my huffing and puffing as I staggered to the bench, they were complimenting me on my play. My physical deficiencies weren't even a factor.

Basketball, Game 10

Our last game started off with a dud. It was so bad, that I scored our first point on a free throw. Unless you've watched our games, you might not know how monumental/disastrous this is. We ended up clawing back from more than twenty down to within eight or nine, but couldn't pull through. Applebee's were just hitting too many shots. The saving factor of this loss is that we play them next week for the league championship next week. And they're going to be without their best player. Keep your fingers crossed.

Holy Basketball

Jason couldn't find his thumb if it was poking him in the eye, so we played without him - all five of us. And unless you failed Jim Harrick Jr.'s basketball test, that's how many are on the court at once. We were heroic. The score was 12-6 in the first have, which could've/should've been closer. With four minutes to go, we found a groove and were within two. But, the wall hit and we scored no more and lost by eight. All of us that played are beat. Definitely my hardest workout in quite some time.

Basketball, Game 8

We shot poorly. They shot well. The refs suck, as usual. We lost.

It's getting much easier to run and I feel my stamina hanging around longer. With the nice weather approaching, I just might be in shape for Crazylegs. Believe it or not, there was one year I woke up completely hung over, if not still tipsy, bought and ate an elephant ear while waiting for the race to start, and ran.

Basketball, Game 7

Playing the team in our last-second victory from the first half of the season. They were without a key player that has true old school talent with wondrous finger rolls that seem to fall. Without his shot making and our Tenacious D, we pulled out a convincing win, a la Dick Bennett ball.

Basketball, Game 6

The second half of the season started against the team we beat with a phantom win. This time we had to go to overtime, but still got the big W. Knowing our luck, it will come back to bite us in the ass and be a loss in the paper. (That's how we got the win the first time around. Whatever the newspaper says goes.) We ended up winning the first half of the season because of it.

Basketball, Game 5

Seems that I missed posting about this game after it happend. We won. Barely. With the win, we cliched the title for the first half of the season, but only we earned a "phantom win" which we really lost. But the paper printed it in our favour, and what the paper says, goes. So we win.

Basketball, Game 4

A pretty debilitating loss to a bunch of lucky, untalented ass-clowns. Actually, one had talent, but he was a whiner. Where our shots were rolling around the rim and falling out, theirs were fallin in. I felt like an elephant trainer, cleaning up crap off the floor with all of their circus shots. That makes us 3-1 with a tough game next week.

Everyone remarks how my mouth hangs open with my tounge out. I just say how much I look like the greatest that ever lived.

Basketball, Game 3

I missed last week's game away on business. Because what really happened wasn't misreported in the paper, we ended up with a big win.

This week was a hard-faught battle (aren't they all?). I ended up on the floor twice, got blocked a couple of times, and felt like J. Ho getting groped by grabby fans everytime I got the ball inside. With 25 seconds left, Tim and TJ work the pick and roll a-la Stockton-Malone to put us up by one. The other team drives and scores a matching lay-up to go back up by one. With 10 seconds left, TJ opts to dive the ball to the lane, dish to Chris, who in turn dishes to Ben, calling for the rock. Ben, without hesitation, arches the ball to the hoop as the second tick off, 3...2...1...swish...0. We win by two.
